MARRIED…..Olivia & Rob’s Alderney Wedding – Putney Wedding Photographer

By julietlemon June 30 2018 - 09.33 AM

The delightful Olivia and Rob were married on Alderney in the Channel Islands.  Just in case you missed their stunning engagement shoot, do have a peek!  As you can see from the photos, their beautiful wedding day was filled with sunshine, gorgeous people, happiness and lots of laughter.

The day started off in a very adventurous mode with the Groom and some of his friends jumping off Bougie Quay.  Despite the sunshine, clear blue sky and turquoise waters, there was quite a chill in the air and the waters were a nippy 10 degrees.  Definitely one refreshing way to start the day off!  It was such a giggle to photograph and great to shoot from the quayside while getting the stunning back of Braye Street into the background.

A little later on, the Groom and his whole entourage gathered for lunch on the deck at the Braye Hotel.  En route to join the Bride I was able to pop by and photograph them before they sat down to eat.

Things with Olivia and her girls were all go.  Hair and makeup were well underway, nails were being painted, dresses put on and most importantly the champagne was flowing.

As well as capturing the getting-ready action I also photographed many of the details of the day: the Bride’s dress, veil, shoes, hair pieces, jewellery, perfume.  Using my 100 mm F/2.8 macro lens to capture those details is the perfect lens for the job.

Once she had helped everyone with their hair and the final touches, it was time for our Bride to put on her dress and oh what a dress it was!!!  Created by designer Charlie Brear, the Oribe Dress looked incredible on Olivia.  Such a simple yet elegant design with intricate detail and a beautiful lace back, it looked absolutely stunning on her.

As always, the time in the morning passed by quickly and soon it was time to leave for the church.  The bridal car was a sand-coloured Land Rover, (my kind of wedding car!), decked out with white wedding ribbon, and once filled with the Bride and her entourage the next stop was St. Anne’s church, where her Groom and their friends and family eagerly awaited their arrival.

With the help of his Best Man and Ushers, Rob had remained calm and cool, yet so excited to see his Bride.  All the anticipation and excitement were worth it as Olivia joined her Groom outside the church and they walked down the aisle together.  It was delightful to see the radiant pair beaming with such happiness.

The service in the picturesque church of St. Anne’s was beautiful with brilliant sunlight streaming through the windows.  The choir and the congregation belted out tuneful hymns and it was a really joyous celebration for everyone.

After the blessing the newlyweds left the church and went out into the glorious sunshine followed by their guests .  A wonderful group shot and confetti dash was captured then the couple got into the Land Rover wedding car and headed off around the corner.  Once there I jumped in the back and we zoomed off for a photo session while the guests made their way to the reception on the other side of the island.

This ‘newlywed alone time’ is such a magical opportunity for photo taking.  Filled with excitement and smiles we had Alderney to play in.  First stop was the cobbled roadway of Victoria Street and the High Street.  Getting the architecture and features of the quaint island into the photos was a real pleasure.  A definite highlight were the YELLOW phone box (yes YELLOW!!!) and the BLUE post box.  Those of you who follow my work know that I get super-excited about the red ones on the mainland at the best of times so I was totally in my element with the yellow and the blue action, especially because they were next to each other!

Next stop was Braye Street lined with cute cottages, bunting strung up above on both sides with the sea and the blue sky on the horizon as the backdrop; it was the perfect setting for another photo session.  From there Dougie Quay was a short walk and that overlooked the harbour filled with small sailing vessels.  Olivia and Rob were an absolute pleasure to photograph – clearly remembering everything from their engagement shoot – they were so natural and such fun in front of the camera.

We soon made our way over to Longis Bay where the guests were on the beach, happily sipping champagne and enjoying the fine weather.  It was a beautiful sight to see everyone in their wedding outfits, smiling and laughing, champagne glasses clinking away, bubbly flowing, all bathed in sunshine on a deserted beach.

The second part of the reception entailed a short walk along a grassy path up the hill, with pretty bunting guiding the way, where the marquee awaited us. Well done Bride’s mum Vee for making all the colourful bunting!  The marquee stood in a perfect location, sheltered from the sea breeze and offered a magnificent view of Longis Bay below.  Intricate attention to detail had been given to decorating the grassy area outside: bunting, jam jars with pretty wild flowers, cut-up logs and crates for seating as well as the massive wooden letters ‘R & O’ added perfectly to the outdoor setting.

Music courtesy of The Elements floated through the air and it was a fun-filled time.  Canapés of various culinary delights tempted the guests’ appetite  and my thanks to the Chef for treating me to my first oyster – it was divine!

I sneaked inside the marquee to photograph the layout and stunning details on the tables set  for the wedding breakfast.  Fairy lights and bunting were strewn along the marquee roof, jam jars filled with white flowers stood carefully placed on pretty blue and white table-runners, guests’ names written on beach pebbles indicated their places and the favours were little jars of coconut oil, which everyone needs in their life!

After the starters came the speeches and the beautiful Bride started off the proceedings by sharing lovely words with everyone – well done Olivia!  I LOVE it when Brides have their say too!  The Father of the Bride delivered an incredible speech that had everyone captivated.  His eloquent, heartfelt words bursted with pride as he talked about his daughter and her future with her new husband.  He had everyone in fits of laughter as well as a few guests shedding tears of sentimental joy.  It really was a top-notch speech  thoroughly enjoyed by all.

It was a tough act for the Groom and the Best Man to follow and they rose to the challenge keeping us all entertained with theirs.

With the formalities of the speeches over and everyone replete it was time to hit the dance floor and dance till dawn to the brilliant sounds of the great band, The Elements.  It was such a wild evening with some super-crazy shapes being thrown on the dance floor.

I really hope that from these photos you can feel the love, happiness and fun that flowed throughout Olivia and Rob’s day and that they make you smile as much as me!

Olivia and Rob, thank you for choosing me to photograph your wonderful wedding.  It was truly such an honour to be part of your day as well as the festivities either side.  Meeting all your lovely friends and families was such a delight and I wish you two lovelies a marriage filled with endless love, happiness and laughter and yes, do let’s catch up for that G&T soon x
