MARRIED…..Part 2: Liana & John’s Chateau Wedding – Dordogne, France

By julietlemon March 6 2018 - 09.40 AM
(In the previous blog post you’ve just been treated to the pre-wedding BBQ photos http://julietlemon.com/blog/?p=7411 and here is a reminder of the engagement photo shoot over in Spain http://julietlemon.com/blog/?p=6266)
Welcome to Liana & John’s beautiful wedding day at Essendiéras Chateau in the Dordogne, France.  Despite the devastation of the storm from the night before, everything seemed to be coming together perfectly.  The sun was out, the sky was blue and there wasn’t a rain cloud in sight, which augured well for the day!  The staff at the venue had been up since dawn clearing away the mess left behind by the storm, sweeping up the leaves and the broken glass, reconnecting the power.  Thankfully the wedding was later on in the afternoon, which meant they had the whole morning to get it all perfect, which they did.
First port of call in the morning was catching up with the boys to get shots of their pre-wedding golf session.  With their game faces on, there were all keen to show off their swings which caused much amusement and laughter following each shot!  I left them as they headed to the first hole and went to join the girls, who were all enjoying a civilised breakfast.
The setting of their wedding was the Essendiéras Chateau, which was absolutely magnificent.  The Domain of Essendiéras has two Chateaux on its grounds, with one dating from the 16th century and the other built in the 19th century.
The bridal suite was stunning, set up at the top of the Chateau in the rafters with exposed brick walls and old wooden beams.  The girls got ready whilst the soundtrack of 80’s music was being played.  The three flower girls revelled in the excitement of the morning, enjoying having their hair done and their nails painted.  One of them, despite being on crutches as a result of a trampolining accident, was still able to keep up with the pace of the others!
Seeing Liana’s transformation from an already beautiful lady into absolutely super, stunning bride was wonderful. With her friends helping her during the process, perfecting her hair, filling up her champagne glass (where she carefully sipped through a straw so not to disturb her red lipstick!), fastening her dress and all helping with the finishing touches was like a scene from a fairytale.  The excitement, giggles and laughter amongst Liana and her girls were contagious.
The ceremony was in a delightful village church just a couple of kilometers down the road.  The guests piled into a bright yellow, american school bus while Liana and her dad were chauffeured there in a white convertible Cadillac.
The 19th century stone church was elegantly decorated, with big vases containing balls of white flowers lining the aisle, complementing the simple interior of the church.
Liana’s dashing groom was waiting patiently at the the top of the aisle for his beautiful bride, who looked absolutely incredible as she walked up to join him, beaming radiantly all the way.
After the service, the guests made their way into the village square, where they gathered around the newlyweds and showered them with confetti.  Surrounded by quaint stone houses and enjoying a blue sky above, it was the perfect setting for the start of the celebrations, but this was only the beginnning because the next stop was the Chateau!  Cruising through the narrow streets of the small village, the passers by waved and applauded the happy couple as they passed by in the Cadillac.
Popping corks and flowing champagne greeted the guests back at the Chateau, with a saxophonist playing relaxing melodies.  The grounds of the Chateau were picturesque with lush foliage, beautifully manicured lawns, winding pathways, all surrounded by colourful fields of crops, sunflowers and hay bales.  Photographing the guests in a candid, documentary style as they mingled, laughing animatedly while enjoying the bubbly and canapés was such a pleasure and with just 40 guests, the whole occasion was truly intimate.
When the sun finally started its descent and the temperatures had dropped a bit, the couple and I scooted off to a field just beyond the swimming pool.  With John at the helm of the golf cart, he skillfully manouvered the buggy over the field, mindful not to spill any of the red wine that he and his bride were clutching!
Their photo time in the field was so much fun, taking shots in this bucolic setting boasting idyllic scenery with a big sky, open fields, hay bales and of course a few with the golf buggy!  Since the drive from the church to the venue, it was the first time the newlyweds had a proper chance to catch up and fill each other in on all the fun they’d been having during the reception, so while they were busy nattering away I photographed them, capturing the excitement they were sharing.
Back at the Chateau, the guests had made their way into the dining hall and greeted the happy couple with big cheers and applause as they entered.  The speeches were brilliant; Liana’s dad saying lots of beautiful, tear-jerking words about his gorgeous daughter; John’s former school headmaster was the Master of Ceremony and he kept everyone amused between the speeches and even awarded very comical trophies to some of the chaps based on their golf antics from that morning; and John’s brother, the best man, having everyone in hysterics.
The delicious meal was followed by coffee, liquors, cheese, a massive cake of profiteroles (seriously yummy!), booze, more booze and dancing till dawn.
They wedding day was so wonderful – such a great couple and super fun guests in such an incredible setting.  Really hope that you enjoy looking at this little selection of photos from their wedding x
