FAST CARS…..WEC in Florida: Part 2

By julietlemon March 15 2012 - 04.01 AM

There was no track action for the cars of the WEC or ALMS here at Sebring Race Circuit today.  The teams were confined to the paddocks because, ahead of tomorrow’s free practice, it was scrutineering day.

The cars were thoroughly checked by ACO officials, from ride height and aero dynamics to the engine and wheels to ensure that everything was in compliance with the WEC and ALMS regulations.

Whilst the teams tinkered away, we were able to work work our way around the paddock garages photographing the bustling action and interviewing the drivers and team directors for Endurance Sports Car.  With over 30 teams involved in the championships, 64 cars racing in Saturday’s 12 hour race and on average 6 to 12 people working on each car, the paddock is a very busy place.  On top of that, you’ve got a sea of enthusiastic spectators, a multitude of photographers, mechanics operating noisy machines and golf buggies zooming around.  It can be hard to locate the people you want and when you do grab them, it can prove quite a challenge to get great pictures in the few minutes that you do have, but that is all part of the fun of photographing at the race circuit.

It was great to catch up with the some of the faces from Audi – André Lotterer, Beniot Treluyer, Ralph Juettner, Leena Gade, Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and from Aston Martin, Darren Turner, Stefan Muecke & Adrian Fernandez – thank you all for your time today and good luck for the race on Saturday.

Oh……and extra thanks to Audi for lunch, it was yum and such a super pleasant change to the hamburger and cereal grub we’ve been living off whilst here at Sebring which isn’t a diet of choice, just there is a serious lack of healthy food available!
