The streets are busy, the light changes quickly and the best moments often appear unexpectedly as you explore together.
For Emma and Mark’s engagement session, I used:
- Canon R5 mirrorless camera
- Canon 5D Mark IV series professional camera bodies
I also used a selection of Canon L-series lenses throughout the shoot.
Wide lenses like my Canon 24mm f/1.4 lens l helped capture the atmosphere of Brick Lane, while my Canon 35mm f/1.4 lens worked beautifully for natural storytelling. I also used Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens and Canon 85mm f/1.4 lens for relaxed portraits and genuine moments between them.
Ultimately, though, the equipment is simply a tool.
What matters most is creating an environment where couples feel comfortable enough to forget about the camera and enjoy the experience together.

A few months after exploring Brick Lane together, I had the pleasure of photographing Emma and Mark’s wedding at Islington Town Hall, followed by an incredible East London warehouse reception in Dalston.
Looking back at these engagement photographs now, it is easy to see the same connection, laughter and energy that carried through into their wedding day.
Because we had already spent time together, everything felt wonderfully relaxed when the wedding arrived. Emma and Mark were completely comfortable in front of the camera, which allowed me to focus on documenting genuine moments as the day unfolded.
