A LUXURY CLIVEDEN HOUSE WEDDING IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE
Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire is one of those rare wedding venues that feels unforgettable from the very first moment you arrive.
As you drive through the grand gates and slowly make your way up the sweeping driveway, there’s an immediate sense of anticipation. The surroundings feel calm, elegant and full of history, setting the tone for a truly special day ahead.
Even after photographing hundreds of weddings, Cliveden still has that effect. It always feels like you are stepping into somewhere extraordinary.
Shona and Darren’s wedding suited this setting perfectly. It was elegant, heartfelt and full of genuine joy from start to finish.
Our connection made the day even more meaningful. In fact, we first met while on a sun-soaked holiday in St Lucia, sharing stories and laughter by the sea. So, when they later reached out after getting engaged, it felt incredibly special to be invited back into their story for such an important chapter.
AN EARLY AUTUMN CELEBRATION FULL OF LIGHT AND WARMTH
Their wedding took place in early September, a time when the UK still holds onto that soft summer glow.
Cliveden’s grounds were beautifully green, with perfectly maintained gardens and a gentle warmth in the air. The light that day had a softness to it that made everything feel naturally romantic without needing anything extra.
With around 60 guests, the atmosphere was intimate and relaxed. It felt like a celebration where everyone could truly be present, enjoy themselves and savour every moment.
WHY SHONA & DARREN CHOSE CLIVEDEN HOUSE
Shona and Darren were immediately drawn to Cliveden House for its elegant yet welcoming atmosphere. In particular, they wanted a venue that felt timeless and luxurious, while still being relaxed enough for their guests to truly enjoy every moment.
Cliveden offered exactly that balance. It has a natural sense of occasion without feeling overly formal, which suited their vision perfectly.
From the sweeping driveway to the beautiful grounds and historic charm, everything felt effortlessly right for their celebration. It was a place where they could create a meaningful, joyful day surrounded by the people they love most.

WEDDING DETAILS & STYLING AT CLIVEDEN HOUSE
Shona and Darren’s wedding styling was effortlessly elegant and perfectly suited to the grandeur of Cliveden House.
The venue’s ornate gold interiors, crystal chandeliers and richly detailed rooms created a truly luxurious backdrop for the day, while still feeling warm, welcoming and full of character. Every space felt alive with history and charm, adding depth to the celebration without overwhelming it.
The wedding party looked beautifully styled, with a relaxed yet refined dress code that suited the setting perfectly. Soft pastel tones, flowing satin dresses and tailored suits created a cohesive and polished look, while still feeling natural and effortless.
Shona’s bridal style was timeless and graceful, complemented by Darren and their guests, who carried a relaxed confidence throughout the day. From the elegant interiors to guests enjoying champagne on the terrace, every detail reflected a sense of understated luxury and joy.
CAPTURING WEDDINGS IN A NATURAL, DOCUMENTARY STYLE
Shona and Darren were clear from the beginning that they wanted their photography to feel effortless and real, with a focus on genuine interaction rather than staged moments.
Their priority was simple: they wanted to remember how the day felt.
That included natural reactions, emotional exchanges and the atmosphere created by their closest family and friends.
My approach fits perfectly with that. I work in a documentary style, quietly observing and capturing moments as they unfold without interruption. It allows couples to stay fully immersed in their wedding, knowing everything meaningful is being preserved naturally.

A FIRST LOOK THAT SET THE TONE FOR THE DAY
Before the ceremony, Shona and Darren chose to share a first look, and it created such a calm, emotional pause in the day.
It gave them space to step away from everything for a moment, see each other for the first time, and take it all in privately before the celebrations began.
Rather than following tradition, they then made the decision to walk into the ceremony together. It was a beautiful reflection of who they are as a couple, thoughtful, grounded and completely in tune with each other.
AN OUTDOOR CEREMONY AT THE CLIVEDEN PAVILION
Their ceremony took place at the Cliveden Pavilion, an outdoor setting that feels both elegant and relaxed.
With its open structure, classical design and surrounding greenery, it creates a beautiful balance between formality and natural surroundings.
The weather could not have been more perfect. Clear blue skies, soft sunshine and a gentle breeze added to the sense of calm anticipation before the ceremony began.
As Shona walked through the grounds accompanied by a live string quartet, everything felt still for a moment. There was a real sense of emotion in the air as their guests watched on.
It was a ceremony filled with sincerity and quiet joy.
A RELAXED CHAMPAGNE CELEBRATION ON THE LAWNS
After the ceremony, guests gathered on the lawns to celebrate. The atmosphere immediately shifted into something light, joyful and full of energy.
Champagne flowed, conversations sparked everywhere, and the gardens came alive with movement and laughter.
This part of the day is always rich with storytelling moments, including:
- guests reconnecting after emotional ceremony moments
- natural, unscripted laughter between friends and family
- warm embraces and spontaneous congratulations
- the couple moving through the celebration, fully present and relaxed
It felt effortless and genuine, exactly the kind of energy that makes a wedding feel unforgettable.

PORTRAITS IN THE GROUNDS OF CLIVEDEN HOUSE
The grounds at Cliveden offer endless opportunities for natural couple portraits, but the focus here was never on the location itself.
Instead, it was about creating space for Shona and Darren to simply be together.
We explored the gardens slowly, allowing moments to unfold without direction or pressure. The result was a collection of images that reflected their connection in a calm and authentic way.
Nothing forced. Nothing overly posed. Just the two of them enjoying a quiet moment in a very special place.
FAVOURITE MOMENTS FROM THE DAY
Shona and Darren’s wedding was filled with so many natural, heartfelt moments that made the day feel truly special.
Their first look was incredibly emotional, giving them a quiet moment together before everything began. During the ceremony, you could feel the love in the room, with smiles, happy tears and genuine reactions from their guests.
Later, the celebration on the lawns was full of laughter and connection, while the soft evening light created a beautiful atmosphere for relaxed portraits. It was a day full of joy, warmth and effortless connection from start to finish.
AN INCREDIBLE EVENING CELEBRATION WITH MUSIC, DANCING AND FIREWORKS
As the day moved into evening, the atmosphere at Cliveden House shifted into something completely electric in the best possible way.
The formalities melted away and the celebration truly came alive.
There was a brilliant live band that got everyone onto the dance floor almost instantly. Guests didn’t need much encouragement at all, it was one of those weddings where the energy just naturally builds and spreads through everyone in the room.
The dance floor was full of movement, laughter and pure joy, with everyone completely letting go and enjoying the moment together.
And then came one of the most unforgettable highlights of the entire day… a spectacular fireworks display lighting up the night sky over Cliveden House.
It was such a magical way to close the celebrations. Guests stepped outside to watch, completely in awe, as the fireworks reflected across the grounds and brought the day to an incredible finale.
For Shona and Darren, it felt like the perfect ending. Joyful, full of energy and completely in tune with who they are as a couple.

It is also a place with deep cultural history, having hosted royalty, political figures and even serving as a filming location for well-known productions over the years, which adds to its unique character.
A WEDDING FILLED WITH MEANINGFUL MOMENTS
What stayed with me most from Shona and Darren’s wedding was not just the setting, but the feeling that ran through the entire day.
Everything felt genuine. Nothing forced. Just a natural flow of emotion, connection and celebration.
From quiet, reflective moments to bursts of laughter on the lawn, the day unfolded in a way that felt completely true to them.
