A STUNNING DE VERE TORTWORTH COURT WEDDING IN WOTTON-UNDER-EDGE

Some weddings are special because of the venue. Some weddings are unforgettable because of the people. Then there are weddings like Mel and Ben’s, where everything comes together so beautifully that the entire day feels like pure magic.

As a Totworth Court wedding photographer, these are the kinds of celebrations I absolutely love to capture. From glorious sunshine and blue skies to a stunning outdoor ceremony and one of the best confetti moments imaginable, every part of the day felt joyful, elegant and full of love.

Mel and Ben’s beautiful wedding at De Vere Tortworth Court in Wotton-under-Edge was one of those days that seemed to flow effortlessly from beginning to end. Every moment felt relaxed, meaningful and wonderfully personal.

This wedding also carried extra significance for me. I have known Mel since my British Touring Car Championship photography days, back when I spent much of my time immersed in the world of motorsport photography.

Having photographed her during one chapter of life and then years later having the privilege of documenting her wedding day felt incredibly special. Seeing her so happy, so in love and surrounded by people who clearly adore her made this wedding one I won’t forget anytime soon.

FROM BRITISH TOURING CARS TO BEAUTIFUL WEDDING BELLS

One of the things I love most about photography is the people it brings into your life.

Mel and I first crossed paths during my motorsport photography years, covering the adrenaline-filled British Touring Car scene, and staying connected over the years has made it such a joy to witness her journey.

To now see her marrying Ben, surrounded by their gorgeous family and friends, was genuinely wonderful.

It is moments like this that remind me how meaningful photography really is. Obviously, this is not just about documenting a day, but about preserving stories, milestones and life’s most extraordinary chapters.

WHY DE VERE TORTWORTH COURT IS ONE OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S MOST BEAUTIFUL WEDDING VENUES

De Vere Tortworth Court is, quite simply, wow.

From the moment you arrive, the grandeur is undeniable.

Set within spectacular grounds in Gloucestershire near Wotton-under-Edge, this extraordinary Victorian mansion feels both majestic and romantic. The sweeping architecture, beautiful lawns, incredible scale and luxurious interiors create the perfect backdrop for couples wanting a wedding that feels elegant and unforgettable.

For couples searching for a Tortworth Court wedding photographer, this venue offers so much visual richness.

Highlights include:

• grand Victorian architecture
• stunning landscaped gardens
• outdoor ceremony spaces
• magnificent high ceilings
• elegant reception areas
• gorgeous bridal preparation rooms
• endless portrait opportunities

It really is one of those venues that instantly leaves an impression.

BRIDAL PREPARATIONS AT DE VERE TORTWORTH COURT

Mel’s wedding morning was everything you could hope for.

The girls got ready in one of Tortworth Court’s grand, high-ceilinged rooms, and it created the most beautiful atmosphere for bridal preparation photography.

Soft natural light poured through the windows, there was excitement in the air, and every detail felt elevated by the elegance of the surroundings.

These quieter morning moments are always some of my favourites to photograph because they hold so much anticipation.

From hair and makeup to dresses hanging beautifully and flower girls excitedly getting ready, the morning was full of energy, love and those precious little in-between moments.

A BEAUTIFUL BRIDE

Mel looked absolutely stunning.

Her gown from Alice Rose Bridal was elegant, timeless and beautifully suited to the grandeur of the day.

Her bridal styling was completed beautifully by Bridal Makeup Artist Allison Tye

The overall look felt polished, radiant and effortlessly elegant, perfect for a warm summer wedding at such an iconic venue.

A BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR WEDDING CEREMONY AT DE VERE TORTWORTH COURT

One of the standout features of Mel and Ben’s day was their stunning outdoor ceremony.

With glorious sunshine overhead, blue skies stretching above and the grandeur of Totworth Court surrounding them, it was such an unforgettable setting.

Outdoor ceremonies have a unique kind of magic. There is something so special about saying your vows beneath open skies, surrounded by nature, warmth and the people you love most.

Their ceremony was heartfelt, joyful and deeply meaningful.

And then came one of my absolute favourite moments of the entire day…

THE CONFETTI MOMENT

As Mel and Ben said their vows and walked back up the aisle together as newlyweds, they were showered in confetti and joy.

Honestly… it was perfection.

This is exactly the kind of moment I adore capturing.

The laughter.
The movement.
The colour.
The emotion.

Confetti moments are often some of the most energetic and joy-filled photos in a wedding gallery, and this one was particularly special.

With sunshine, smiling guests and that spectacular outdoor backdrop, it felt like pure celebration.

CHAMPAGNE ON THE LAWN

Following the ceremony, guests gathered on the lawn for drinks, congratulations and celebration beneath the summer sun.

This part of the day felt relaxed, vibrant and wonderfully social.

Guests mingled, laughter filled the air, and Tortworth Court’s stunning grounds created the most incredible atmosphere.

This is where documentary wedding photography really shines, capturing:

• spontaneous laughter
• warm embraces
• candid conversations
• children playing
• stylish details
• joyful celebration

These moments often become some of the most treasured because they capture the true atmosphere of the day.

A WONDERFUL FOUR-LEGGED SURPRISE

As if the day wasn’t already joyful enough, there was an unexpected guest… a magnificent St Bernard.

A hotel guest had brought their enormous and very lovable dog, and naturally, it became an instant highlight for Mel, Ben and me.

As a dog lover myself, and with the couple sharing the same affection, we couldn’t resist a few fun photos.

The gentle giant loved the attention and happily joined in, creating some wonderfully spontaneous and joy-filled images.

These little surprises are often what make wedding days so unforgettable.

Alongside all the elegance and grandeur, a giant fluffy cameo was exactly what the day needed.

FAVOURITE PHOTO LOCATIONS FOR TORTWORTH COURT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

As a photographer, Tortworth Court is packed with opportunities.

Some of my favourite elements include:

• the grand exterior façade
• sweeping lawns
• elegant pathways
• architectural features
• romantic gardens
• high-ceilinged interiors

This variety means couples receive a beautifully diverse gallery, from grand editorial-style portraits to soft romantic moments and natural candid storytelling.

FAMILY, FLOWER GIRLS & BEAUTIFUL WEDDING DETAILS

Mel and Ben’s daughter, along with the flower girls, looked absolutely fabulous and brought so much sweetness and personality to the day.

As always, children at weddings often create some of the most joyful and emotionally rich moments, whether through excitement, curiosity or those beautifully spontaneous little interactions that unfold naturally throughout the day.

Alongside this, the floral styling by Sudbury Florist (Amy) tied everything together perfectly. The details felt thoughtful and elegant, creating a beautifully cohesive atmosphere that elevated the entire celebration without ever feeling overdone.

AN EPIC EVENING RECEPTION AT DE VERE TORTWORTH COURT

If the daytime was elegant, heartfelt and dreamy… the evening was something else entirely.

As the celebrations moved into the stunning glass house reception space, the energy shifted from beautiful wedding day to absolutely unforgettable party.

The dance floor was wild in the very best way.

Guests brought incredible energy, the atmosphere was electric, and the entire evening felt full of celebration, fun and pure joy. Tortworth Court’s stunning glass house setting created the most spectacular backdrop for an evening of dancing, music and unforgettable memories.

And then came an extraordinary musical highlight.

In an incredible personal touch, guests were treated to a performance by none other than Billy Duffy, legendary lead guitarist of iconic British rock band The Cult, who is the partner of the bride’s sister, Lalani Dowding.

Yes… really.

It was one of those brilliantly surreal, wildly fun wedding moments that nobody could have predicted, and it elevated an already incredible evening into something truly exceptional.

The combination of epic live music, packed dance floor energy and guests fully embracing the celebration made this one unforgettable.

This was not just a beautiful wedding.
This was a proper party.
