Winter has its own quiet beauty too. Wrapped in cosy coats and knitwear, the coastline feels peaceful and atmospheric, creating photographs with a completely different character.
I’ve always believed there’s no such thing as bad weather, only clothing that isn’t quite right for the conditions.
With the right layers and a sense of adventure, every season has the potential to create something beautiful.
ARE SUNRISE OR SUNSET BEACH ENGAGEMENT SHOOTS BETTER?
The coast has a habit of looking beautiful at almost any time of day, but the light can completely change the mood of your photographs.
Sunrise brings peaceful beaches, soft colours and the feeling that you have the coastline almost entirely to yourselves. Sunset creates warm golden light, longer shadows and that gentle glow that makes evenings by the sea feel so special.
Whenever possible, I like to begin a little earlier and photograph through the changing light. That gives us the best of both worlds, from bright, natural images to those softer golden hour portraits as the sun begins to disappear.

One of the questions I hear most often before a beach engagement shoot is about the weather.
The truth is, coastal weather is wonderfully unpredictable, and that’s often part of its charm.

Instead, they’re about creating an experience you’ll remember just as much as the photographs themselves.
A few things always help.

- Think about the experience, not just the photographs. Turn your engagement shoot into a day out together. Stay for lunch, watch the sunset or enjoy fish and chips by the sea afterwards.
- Wear something that feels like you. The most natural photographs come when you feel comfortable and confident, not when you’re following the latest trends.
- Trust the weather. Blue skies are lovely, but dramatic clouds, sea mist and a little wind often create the most atmospheric images.

Absolutely. Dogs are part of the family and often help everyone relax even more.
If you’d like to include your four-legged friend, simply bring water, treats, a lead and, if possible, someone who can look after them for a short time while we capture a few photographs of just the two of you.

I do.
